Deretha lived and worked in Waterloo, Iowa from 1980 thru 2017. She earned a Bacholors Degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa and a Masters Degree in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics from University of Northern Iowa. She’s also holds an Administration Certificate for grades K-12. She taught for 28 years and spent the last 5 years as an assistant principal at Bunger Middle School. She retired from the Waterloo Community School District in 2013 after 33 years of service. In her tenure there she was nominated several times as a Gold Star teacher and won the award in 2006. She now resides in Cedar Rapids, where she is an active member of New City Church. She enjoys reading, golfing and attending the activities of her three grandchildren
